  1. Dave you can easily check that status of your RAID drives by running cat /proc/mdstat in a terminal:

    [ian@tvheadend ~]$ cat /proc/mdstat
    Personalities : [raid1]
    md127 : active raid1 sdd[1] sdc[0]
    1953383360 blocks super 1.2 [2/2] [UU]

    unused devices:
    This shows a RAID 1 with 2 drives. If one drive was down it would show [1/2]. You can run this command in a shell script and email it to you daily.
